I'm really enjoying learning more about typography and this 2 week project where I was challenged to create a typeface family, based on the characteristics of another student I was paired up with, particularly interested me. My words to describe my partner's character were:
Interesting, Friendly, Witty, Liberal
and
Cynical, Neurotic, Insecure, Shy

The words completely contradicted themselves so I wanted to design my alphabet in 2 halves, as you can see from the photo of my final type.

I wanted to show a friendly, interesting half, which I based on the existing typeface; 'Plantagenet Cherokee'. The top half was my first impression of my partner, along with his view on himself. I wanted to get across the shy, insecure and cynical side with the broken lines and straightforward sans serif font; 'Angie's New House'.

I was really pleased with the outcome and it got a good response in my final crit with comments about how it was well crafted and the split letterform was an original way of showing the contradictory personality.

Here are some development ideas demonstrating a gradual process towards my chosen decision.

My partner for this project, Ben Bowsher, produced a really nicely crafted alphabet based on my personality...
