End of module self - evaluation

1. What practical skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
I have learned many skills throughout this module, as I now know the purpose and basic use of InDesign and have become a bit more confident when using Photoshop. I voice my opinion a lot more in group work and have really tried to engage myself in other people's projects during crits to hopefully offer useful suggestions. I really enjoyed learning how to make a book (during our perfect-binding workshop) and have looked at other ways of book-making and applied them within my development work.

2. What approaches to/methods of problem solving have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
I have found working on research driven projects a lot more effective as it kept my options open and I have not worked with a resolution in mind. I also feel my research and development work link together better as I have had to keep going back to my research or taking it further to help solve problems within my ideas.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
I think that the quantity of work within each brief is a strength as it shows my gradual on-going development in an organised approach through each stage to how I got to the final resolution. I don't feel in any project there is a giant leap between the initial idea and resolution. I have also been documenting my work and evaluating it well, either here on the blog or in my sketchbook. I have managed my time a lot better during this module, which will hopefully continue to improve as I go through the course.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?
I think I need to be researching secondary research more, and spending more time looking for existing work in the industry that interests or inspires me, so that is something I will definitely allow more time for.

5. Are there any things we could have done differently that would have benefitted your progress?
No

6. How would you grade yourself on the following areas:

(5=excellent, 4=very good, 3=good, 2=average, 1=poor)

Attendance - 4
Punctuality - 4
Motivation - 3
Commitment -4
Quantity of work produced - 3
